Greenwich seniors’ resort

Pam has recently downsized to a stylish seniors’ community in Sydney’s north. She invited us to rejuvenate her apartment, starting with the selection of a peaceful colour scheme for the entire home and new paint throughout.

Pam wanted to turn an unused enclosed veranda into an inviting reading nook that would be both functional and beautiful. We chose pale grey with white trim to freshen up the walls, and selected bright white Hamptons-style furniture and crisp green plants to add life to the space. A comfortable reading chair and good lighting resulted in a room that’s now used daily.

Next up was the selection of new furniture for Pam’s living spaces and bedroom, installing new appliances, styling her generous display unit and re-carpeting the entire apartment. Kate Kerin Interiors also commissioned a gorgeous unique artwork from artist Rochelle Summerfield to complete the living room, overseeing the entire process and coordinating the project.

Most recently, Pam decided she wanted to refresh her kitchen and laundry. The cabinetry and handles were dated, but she didn’t want the expense or disruption of completely replacing the kitchen. Pam asked Kate Kerin Interiors to guide her through a “refacing” process, retaining the cabinet carcasses, benchtops and splashback to minimise disruption and increase sustainability.

We assisted Pam to replace key appliances including the integrated refrigerator, double oven, dishwasher and washer/dryer with new, top-of-the-range Miele items. We selected Joinery Rescue to build new cabinet fronts, replacing worn hinges as needed. Pam has some mobility issues with her right hand, and wanted particularly deep cabinet handles so we spent time carefully selecting beautiful brushed nickel handles with a high clearance from Dorset Australia. Understanding Pam’s preference for a light, bright room we chose Dulux Grand Piano for the cabinet fronts. And finally, we helped Pam declutter her entire kitchen and laundry, reducing the number of items in these spaces by more than half and ensuring all articles were within reach, functional and not duplicated.

The finished rooms are simply beautiful. The beveled door profiles in a satin finish, combined with the brushed nickel handles, are high-quality and have elevated the space in an elegant, sophisticated way.

“Living in a Seniors Resort, I was limited in the changes I could make so I needed guidance. Kate helped me choose furniture and floor coverings, and advised on a subtle new colour scheme that transformed a dark, enclosed veranda into a serene sunroom. The kitchen is now updated, functional and gorgeous. I’m so pleased with the results!”
