STEP BY STEP: Finishing Touches
Step by Step documents the projects that I’m juggling alongside setting up my new interior design business, Kate Kerin Interiors. My clients Joanna and Pam have kindly agreed to being the subject of this blog, and I thank them for sharing their projects with readers.
Petersham Project – bathroom reno
Joanna’s bathroom is finished, and oh-so-lovely! This morning Drew Leach from Wow Wallcoverings put up our hand-printed wallpaper from Publisher Textiles and Papers. And my goodness, it was worth the wait! This luscious design is called The Rum Corps and the colour is blue shimmer. Says it all, really!
The custom vanity and mirror from Three of a Kind Furniture are installed and are truly the focus of this room. The craftsmanship demonstrated by Rob is outstanding, and every single tradesman who has been through the room has commented on these lovely items. The other feature that has been a terrific conversation point is the high-quality tiles from Earp Bros. Most of the room is tiled in Nazari (Ifrane), a rustic off-white square tile that is full of life and interest. The feature wall which greets you on entry to the room is in Safi (Mint Gloss), laid in a basketweave pattern. The delicate light green colour is calm and elegant.
All tapware is from the Phoenix Vivid Slimline range, in a brushed nickel finish that is understated and classic. The frameless blade-style shower screen disappears into the background, and the rimless Decina Renee toilet is functional and easy to clean. Thanks to The Blue Space for supplying all of these fixtures at a competitive price, and for their excellent customer service along the way.
This bathroom is small and doesn’t require much in the way of styling; just some pretty towels and a pot plant. The design features such as the vanity, tile selection and wallpaper do the heavy lifting and create different zones that catch the eye. Overall the mood of the room is serene and sophisticated.
It has been a delight working with builder Stephen Hughes from Modern Edge Renovations. His team has been outstanding – expert in their trades, on time, great at cleaning up after themselves and always pleasant to deal with. Stephen has been on site regularly to oversee their work, and has been communicative and helpful every step of the way. He has a great rapport with his team and I very much hope to work with him again soon.
The wardrobe in the second bedroom (which observant readers will recall was once the shower) is still being completed. Joinery has been delivered and will be installed this week, then a custom barn door can be ordered. We are intending to paint the door in the background colour from our hand-printed wallpaper, and Stephanie from Publisher has agreed to provide us with the paint codes to ensure the match is spot on. This will all take a few weeks, so I’ll keep readers posted on our progress.
For now, it’s time to pop the champagne cork and let Joanna get on with enjoying her brand new, beautiful bathroom in Sydney’s Inner West. For more information and pictures, check out my website or Facebook and Instagram accounts.
